So the 60 minutes Rep told me that if y'all speak a strange language/disquisitional linguistic communication that during Touchstone y'all have the opportunity to accept a test for a monetary bonus. Has anyone tested for language skills and if and then, exercise y'all take the DLPT, what score do you need to consider to pass and how much of a bacon bonus (one time bonus or added on top of your pay) do you become? Thanks!

Thank you for the info! Do you lot know, or anyone else, if DIA pays for language classes if yous want to outset learning a new disquisitional language or to keep your current one sharp? Similar Arabic classes at the Heart East Found for example.

There are language opportunities for new DIA employees. Someone else on this forum recently mentioned how you'll have to mention information technology during the initial counseling, conducted by your supervisor at your commencement duty station. This meeting is used to develop a training plan that meets both bureau and personal goals throughout your career. They didn't provide details about which courses or schools the employee will take access to, but it's probably better than Rosetta Stone.

According to multiple DIA contractors that I have spoken to recently, their Federal equivalents are constantly sent to advanced training courses throughout their career. A certain level of jealousy exists considering of this, which is one of the many reasons why in that location'due south a plethora of contractors on this forum seeking an upgrade. Of class many of these opportunities are not available until they complete the probation menstruation, merely information technology's even so good news for those of us who survive the hiring process.

Can you tell the states what career field(southward) those contractors work in or with?

It has been some years merely DIA used to bring instructors on-site to the DIAC to conduct language training. I deceit retrieve if information technology was meant to be refresher training or initial acquisition training. Also I imagine it had to be approved by your supervisor.

There are a bunch of online training resources you can sign upward for one time you get your .mil/.gov electronic mail address.

DISCLAIMER: You read information technology on an open internet forum :)

Well I promise that MM exists! lol But seriously, I do promise that MM provides language grooming opportunities.

I wouldn't get as well hopeful if I was you. Training opportunities are normally linked to the position currently held past the employee. For instance, there's no reason for a supervisor to recommend an ambassador for Sniper School. Information Sharing Officers, within Mission Direction are ofttimes tasked to liaise with foreign military and government officials. And then for that particular specialty, it makes sense for them to receive language training. It is always helpful for an employee to exist proficient in multiple languages, but it'due south non always necessary. It's just the divergence between the regime paying for the linguistic communication and the employee learning it on their ain. The but affair we tin can do to better our odds is endeavour to persuade our superiors that sending the states to advanced training would benefit them and the agency. So... pluck those eyebrows, maintain that beach body, and develop those social skills, folks!

Only if about one-half of DIA employees allegedly serve overseas, wouldn't language training be helpful to most of them?

Practise you guys know if you typically get the bonus money if your proficiency is in not for a language listed in the targeted languages listing? From that link past Kaliino (http://www.dia.mil/Careers/Foreign-Languages/) at that place are some languages that practise non fit with what I would expect to see there (Greek and Polish? **...must exist NATO related and/or about of their people do not speak English) and some are missing (e.g., Chechen). I would think Chechen is more than valuable than Greek...unless Greeks start blowing things up once again
